BODY PORTRAITS

Working from live subjects, Liashkov executes his pieces in charcoal, crayon, acrylic, pastel, oil and metallic and powder pigments. Their surface is a velum-like translucent fiberglass called sunskin. Acrylic color is applied to the back of the drawings exploiting the transparency property of the material. This device echoes Liashkov's earlier paintings on glass in which refraction and transparency were essential to the work. These figures both express the fullness of their individualities and reveal a range of universal human qualities that activate a link between past and present.
