GLASS HEADS

I began to get interested in transparency when I experimented with portraiture on glass in the early 1980s. The oil impasto modeling of the form was a direct result of my early apprenticeship in Russian impressionism. However, the inspiration for the heads is the Egyptian Fayum mummy portrait with its strong emphasis on the gaze and the absence of background.
